BathoryFondé en 1983 en Suède, Bathory a été l'un des groupes de metal extrème les plus influents dans les années 80 et 90 à l'instar de Venom ou Celtic Frost. Quorthon (multi instrument), Hanoi (basse) et Vans (batterie) signent un 1er album éponyme en 1984 puis, l'année suivante, The Return, qui posera les bases du black metal. Avec Under the Sign of the Black Mark (1987) et Blood Fire Death (1988), Barthory incorpore à son black metal quelques éléments symphoniques et s'éloigne des thèmes satanistes pour s'intéresser de plus près à la mythologie viking. Suivent Hammerheat (1990) et Twilight of the Gods (1991). Quorthon décide alors de prendre une pause pour retrouver l'inspiration. En 1994, il signe sous son nom Album puis avec Bathory Octagon (1995) et Blood on Ice (1996). Suivront Destroyer of Worlds (2001), Nordland et Nordland II (2003). Le 7 juin 2004, Johnny "Quorthon" Forsberg meurt d'une crise cardiaque à Stockholm.
