DeathDe nombreux fans estiment que Chuck Schuldiner, le guitariste et chanteur de Death, est le père du death métal.Formé en 1983, Death ne réalise son premier album Scream Bloody Gore qu'en 1987, mais acquière une énorme notoriété grâce à ses démos qui circulent et ses prestations scéniques.Death, encore plus que les autres groupes de métal, est obsédé par une violence morbide et par la mort.Avec un métal qui n'accepte pas les compromis et de mornes perspectives, Death a donné naissance au courant death métal mais également à des sous-genres plutôt ténébreux.Death a produit cinq albums en dix ans dont Leprosy (1988), Spiritual Healing (1990) et Individual Thought Patterns (1993). Il sort en 1998 Sound of Perserverence.
